Centre for Decentralised Planning

Centre's Mandate

The mandate of the Centre is to evolve and disseminate methodologies in participatory micro level planning for sustainable rural development. In order to fulfill this, it conceives, designs and organises training and research programmes with a focus on participatory approach to planning. It also aims to build capacities of development functionaries of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, including NGOs in the field of Community Based Monitoring (CBM).

Objectives

  • To design and organise trainings and provide consultancy services focusing on the theme of decentralised planning for the elected Panchayati Raj representatives, officials and other rural development functionaries.
  • To contribute to the policy making and programme designing to the government of India and State governments based on the innovative research, especially in the field of Rural Development.
  • To impart skills, knowledge and creation of pro-poor attitude through custom designed training, workshop for the participatory decision making for its clientele.
  • Initiation of collaborative efforts for joint working with the regional, national and international organisations to deliver the benefits of various governments programmes to the needy people in rural areas.
  • Conduct of National and International seminars on the indentified themes with the focus on decentralised planning and associated subjects.

CDP focuses mainly on sensitisation and exposure to skills in the use of tools, methods and approaches for participatory micro planning, implementation and community based monitoring including developing indicators, the logical framework approach for programme formulation and management, formal surveys, rapid rural appraisal / participatory methods, cost-benefit and cost-effectiveness analysis and stakeholders’ participation, to RD and PR functionaries. CDP provides broad-based and comprehensive ‘state-of-art’ services and guide on all aspects of decentralised planning aiming to achieve rural development.
