Swachh Bharat

Swachh Bharat Initiatives

Swachh Bharat Mission initiatives started off, at the National Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj (NIRD&PR), Hyderabad with setting the home in order before moving on to setting the next door right. It has put in place a series of internal measures to correct some of the local practices that were not in alignment with the values and principles that Swachh Bharat would approve of. The internal measures within the campus are presented as ‘Before – After’ below, followed by how do we extend these practices to the larger community.

The NIRD&PR believes in the following principles:

  1. Many small do-able steps shall result in a giant leap over time.
  2. Charity begins at home – First, let me set my home in order.
  3. The best way to realize Swachh Bharat is converting individuals as Swachh Citizens, and keep expanding the circle;
  4. Demonstrate. Let them know - through your manifested behavioral routines - what is meant by being a Swachh Citizen.
  5. Swachh Bharat rests more on our being able to install a new set of behavior that are favourable to keeping India Clean, coupled with cleaning up - and not just clean up.

We have to be perfect to be able to correct others towards perfection. Therefore, we practice to become perfect, and to be able to demonstrate.
